Chiang Rai

A Blend of Art, Culture and Mountain Landscapes

Explore Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai is a destination where art, history, and nature come together in a way that’s unlike anywhere else in Thailand. From iconic contemporary temples and ancient Lanna heritage to misty mountain peaks, tea plantations, and quiet villages, the province offers a journey that is both inspiring and relaxing. While many visitors come for the famous landmarks, it’s often the scenic drives and slower pace of life that leave the strongest impression.

What I Enjoy About Travelling in Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai has a quieter charm that feels different from its larger neighbour, Chiang Mai. While there are famous landmarks that attract visitors from around the world, much of the province still feels peaceful and unhurried. It’s a place where mountain scenery, traditional villages, art, and culture come together naturally.

One of the things I enjoy most about Chiang Rai is driving through the countryside. The roads wind past tea plantations, coffee farms, rice fields, and mountain viewpoints, making the journey just as enjoyable as the destinations. Along the way, you’ll often come across small cafés, local markets, and hidden temples that aren’t found in most travel guides.

Chiang Rai is also home to some of Thailand’s most distinctive temples. From the iconic White Temple and Blue Temple to historic Lanna temples, each has its own character and story. Beyond the temples, places like the Golden Triangle, Doi Mae Salong, and Phu Chi Fa offer a different perspective on northern Thailand, with beautiful landscapes and rich cultural influences.

Whether you’re interested in photography, local culture, or simply slowing down to enjoy the scenery, Chiang Rai is a destination that always leaves me wanting to return and discover somewhere new.

What to Visit

Chiang Rai is home to some of northern Thailand’s most recognisable landmarks, but its appeal extends well beyond the famous temples.
