Da Nang is a vibrant coastal city in central Vietnam where sandy beaches, mountain scenery, and modern city life come together. Once an important French colonial port, it has become one of Vietnam’s most popular destinations thanks to its convenient international connections and easy access to attractions such as Ba Na Hills, Hoi An, and Hue. Whether you’re looking for spectacular viewpoints, cultural landmarks, or simply a relaxing seaside atmosphere, Da Nang offers far more than just a stopover.

Why I Enjoy Travelling to Da Nang
I’ve visited Da Nang three times, and each visit has given me another reason to return. While many travellers simply pass through on their way to Hoi An, I think Da Nang deserves at least a couple of nights. With its relaxed coastal atmosphere, wide boulevards, mountain scenery, and central location, it’s an excellent base for exploring central Vietnam.
Over my visits, I’ve explored many of Da Nang’s iconic attractions, including Ba Na Hills and the famous Golden Bridge, the Marble Mountains, Chùa Linh Ứng Pagoda, Dragon Bridge, the Cham Museum, the distinctive Pink Cathedral, and the spectacular drive across Hải Vân Pass. One of my favourite stays was at Vanda Hotel, where I requested a room overlooking Dragon Bridge. Watching the bridge illuminate the skyline each evening from my window became one of the highlights of the trip.
Being a coastal city, Da Nang is also an excellent place to enjoy fresh seafood. Combined with its convenient location between Hue and Hoi An, the city offers far more than a stopover. Every visit has revealed something new, which is why I continue to include Da Nang whenever I travel through central Vietnam.
What to Do
Da Nang offers enough attractions to easily fill two or three days. Beyond its beautiful beaches, the city combines mountain scenery, cultural landmarks, scenic drives, and impressive modern architecture, making it an ideal base for exploring central Vietnam.
- Spend a day at Sun World Ba Na Hills – The highlight is undoubtedly the famous Golden Bridge, but there is much more to explore. The scenic cable car ride, taking around 45 minutes, was an attraction in itself, while the French Village offered plenty of opportunities for photography. Although the area can be crowded, a little patience and creative angles can still reward you with great photos.
- Explore the Marble Mountains – Walking through the caves, temples, tunnels, and stairways was one of the most enjoyable experiences in Da Nang. The viewpoints from the summit make the climb worthwhile, while the temples hidden within the caves create a peaceful atmosphere.
- Visit Chùa Linh Ứng Pagoda – Perched on Sơn Trà Peninsula, the towering Lady Buddha overlooks the coastline and the city below. The panoramic views alone make the visit worthwhile.
- Drive across Hải Vân Pass – If you’re travelling between Hue and Da Nang by road, don’t rush the journey. The winding mountain road offers some of the finest coastal scenery in Vietnam and is worth stopping to admire along the way.
- See Dragon Bridge after sunset – Dragon Bridge is impressive during the day, but it truly comes alive at night when colourful lights illuminate the dragon-shaped structure. If you’re visiting on a weekend, stay for the famous fire and water show.
- Visit the Cham Museum – I missed this museum on my first visit but finally explored it on my second trip. The impressive collection of Cham sculptures provides a fascinating insight into the ancient Champa Kingdom and its artistic heritage.
- Stop by Da Nang Cathedral – Better known as the Pink Cathedral, this charming French colonial church is one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks and well worth a short visit.
- Enjoy Da Nang’s seafood – As a coastal city, Da Nang is an excellent place to sample fresh seafood. After a day of sightseeing, enjoying a local seafood dinner became one of the highlights of my stay.

Da Nang offers an excellent variety of photography opportunities, from mountain landscapes and coastal viewpoints to modern architecture and historic landmarks. If you’re planning your itinerary with photography in mind, these are the places I wouldn’t miss.
- Golden Bridge – The iconic giant hands supporting the bridge remain one of Vietnam’s most photographed landmarks.
- French Village at Ba Na Hills – European-inspired architecture provides a completely different atmosphere from the rest of Vietnam.
- Dragon Bridge – Beautiful after sunset when illuminated, especially if you catch the weekend fire and water show.
- Marble Mountains – Limestone caves, temples, and panoramic viewpoints offer countless photography angles.
- Lady Buddha at Chùa Linh Ứng – The towering white statue overlooking Da Nang Bay creates one of the city’s most impressive viewpoints.
- Hải Vân Pass – Spectacular coastal scenery with sweeping views over Da Nang Bay and the surrounding mountains.
- Da Nang Cathedral (Pink Cathedral) – Its soft pink façade stands out beautifully among the surrounding streets.
- My Khe Beach – A wonderful location for sunrise photography, with fishing boats, gentle waves, and the city skyline completing the scene.
