Explore Mandalay, Myanmar

Mandalay, a city and former royal capital in northern Myanmar (formerly Burma) on the Irrawaddy River, is rich in history and culture. At its center lies the restored Mandalay Palace from the Konbaung Dynasty, surrounded by a moat. Mandalay Hill offers stunning views of the city from its summit, accessible by a covered stairway. At its base, the Kuthodaw Pagoda houses hundreds of marble slabs inscribed with Buddhist scriptures.

Trip Highlights
I flew directly from Bangkok via Bangkok Airways and stayed one night in Mandalay before continuing on to Bagan. Some of the highlights include Mandalay Hill, Kuthodaw Pagoda, Mandalay Palace, Shwenandaw Monastery, Shwe In Bin Kyaung Monastery, U-Bein Bridge, Mahamuni Paya, Kyauktawgyi Paya, Shwekyimyint Paya, and more. I also took a boat ride to visit Mingun Pagoda and Hsinbyume Pagoda. On the way back from Bagan, I stopped at Ta Moke Shwe Gu Gyi before reaching Mandalay.
