Explore Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Yogyakarta, or Jogja, is a city steeped in traditional arts and cultural heritage on the Indonesian island of Java. It’s renowned for the 9th-century Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist temple and a UNESCO World Heritage site, attracting visitors from around the globe.

Trip Highlights
During our trip, Ispent a night at Witarka Resto Hotel Manohara Borobudur for convenient access to the temple during sunrise and sunset. It’s essential to view Borobudur from each side, as the temple features nine stacked platforms, 2,672 relief panels, and 504 Buddha statues. The central dome, surrounded by 72 Buddha statues inside perforated stupas, is a sight to behold.

Later, I moved to a hotel closer to the city to visit another historical site, the magnificent Prambanan Temple. Also known as the Rara Jonggrang temple, this 10th-century Hindu temple complex was discovered by the Dutch and is dedicated to the God Shiva Mahadeva. Characterized by its tall, pointed architecture, the 47-meter-high central building stands within a vast complex of individual temples, making it one of the most beautiful Hindu temples in the world.
